Jessica Simpson on the cover of the May edition of Esquire magazine

There was never any doubt Jessica Simpson’s beauty regime was thorough.
But the blonde bombshell has just taken her primping to a whole new level.
The pop singer turned reality TV star has been pictured holding a razor to her face, which is covered with shaving cream for the cover of men’s magazine Esquire.

The shoot is a recreation of a famous Esquire image of Italian actress and Marilyn Monroe lookalike Virna Lisi from March 1965.

The photograph was originally concieved by esteemed art director George Lois as a provocation on women’s liberation.
He said in 2005: “I spoofed the upcoming woman’s movement by slapping shaving cream on the beautiful blond Italian actress Virna Lisi [because] no American beauty had the [guts] to pose for it.”
Jessica, 27, has now stepped up to the challenge, although given her well-documented struggle to differentiate chicken from fish on her former reality show Nick and Jessica: Newlyweds, it’s unlikely to be an effort at any kind of social commentary.
The divorced star, who now dates American football player Tony Romo, follows in Lindsay Lohan’s footsteps in taking on an iconic look.
In February Lohan posed nude for New York magazine to recreate Marilyn Monroe’s last shoot.

Lindsay Lohan hones her Daisy Duke-look

Her acting career has received a critical mauling recently, so it comes as no surprise Lindsay Lohan is concentrating on her dress sense instead.
The troubled actress’s latest look of cut-off denim shorts appears to be inspired by seventies sex symbol Daisy Duke.
Leaving little to the imagination with her clinging black top, waistcoat, and massive Jackie O sunglasses, Lohan was out-and-about in West Hollywood yesterday.

Catherine Bach played the sexy short-shorts-wearing cousin Daisy in the popular U.S. TV show, The Dukes of Hazzard, while Jessica Simpson took up the role for 2005’s big screen incarnation.
It’s been a bad start to the year for Lohan, who spent most of 2007 in rehab being treated for substance abuse.
While her contemporaries Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson have been nominated for an Oscar and won a Bafta respectively, Lohan’s latest film was awarded a staggering EIGHT Golden Raspberry Awards.

I Know Who Killed Me, shot around Lohan’s first of three stints in rehab last year, was named Worst Film of the year, last week.
She picked up two wins as Worst Actress for playing two characters who may or may not have been twins.
Her dual roles also got Razzied for a scene in which the two characters appear together, as Worst Screen Couple.

The film was also named Worst Remake or Rip-off, for paying dubious homage to Hostel, Saw and The Patty Duke Show.
Her campy horror film, I Know Who Killed Me, which has never been released here, surpassed the record seven wins previously held by Battleship Earth and Showgirls.
